Why this journal exists.
It started with a notebook left on a timing stand at Silverstone in 1997. Someone — never found out who — had filled it with lap-by-lap annotations in three different pens, margin notes about tyre behaviour in sector two, a sketch of a diffuser configuration that shouldn't have worked but did. The notebook smelled of rubber and damp grass. It was the most honest piece of motorsport writing I had ever read, and nobody would ever publish it.
Paddock exists because that notebook deserves to exist. Because the story of Räikkönen's suspension failure at Nürburgring 2005 — lap 43, turn seven, the sound it made on the world feed before the commentary even caught up — is worth writing down properly. Because Prost versus Senna is not a settled argument and anyone who tells you it is hasn't been paying attention. This is a journal for the ones paying attention.
"The notebook smelled of rubber and damp grass. It was the most honest piece of motorsport writing I had ever read."

Ground Effect: The Season Ferrari Tried to Outlaw Physics
In 1978, Colin Chapman's Lotus 78 didn't just win races — it rewrote what a racing car could be. The paddock panicked. Ferrari lobbied. Physics won.

Oral History: The Mechanics Who Built the Turbo Era
Six men who worked under Renault's RS01 in 1977 remember the smell of the fuel, the noise that made the pit wall flinch, and the morning they realised they were building the future.

Michael Schumacher and the Art of the Comeback Lap
There is a specific kind of lap — not the fastest, not the pole — where a driver retrieves something from the edge of catastrophe. Schumacher ran more of those than anyone.
